Do I have to get my house rewired?
In some occasions we have found exceptional houses where the house wiring is still in good condition after many years. In these cases we advise some minor changes to bring the house to UK specification and do not rewire the whole house. This is why we encourage people to get a quote from us and have an engineer visit. You will receive consulting regarding the current status of your house wiring and whether it is safe or not. Why rewire your house?
If your house wiring is over 30 years old, it is normally time to rewire the house. One of the most common problems with aging houses is the insulation in the electrical cable wearing out over time. It is difficult to definitively find signs that the insulation is degrading by mere visual tests. However, at Electrum Electrical we can do an insulation test (part of EICR) to determine the health of the cable in your house. In addition to this we will inspect the wiring behind your fusebox, switches, sockets and boiler to see if it is safe and complies to all the necessary regulations. After this we will advise you whether we think the house requires a rewire.
